The Carnival Hub community complex formed the final phase of the Wokingham town centre regenerations vision to meet the evolving needs and preferences of residents and visitors. Carnival Hub brings together multiple community assets into one central facility; a large gym, spin studio multi-use studios, spa, café and library.

RCDC were appointed to review the existing plan and advise on sustainability interventions to help Wokingham Borough Council support its Climate Targets. Once such implementation, that has since been installed was an 1800m2 PV array, located on the roof of the leisure centre. A Building Management System was also installed, allowing live tracking of the sites energy usage at all times.

The Carnival Place scheme also involved the planning of a Residential scheme, consisting of 70 residential units, in a single block, housing a building wide heating network. RCDC carried out the feasibility study of a district heating network, but this was not found to be suitable due to phasing and cost restrictions.

A significant success of the project was our ability to predict the energy consumption with a 99% accuracy. We have been monitoring and analysing the energy consumption for the building for the last year and have been able to successfully compared our predicted with the in-use energy data.
